What are the benefits and limitations of pre-workout supplements?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 34 years old and have recently started going to the gym and wanted to ask about pre-workout supplements. I have heard they can help boost energy and performance during workouts. However, I am unsure about their safety and potential side effects. Could you please explain the pros and cons of using pre-workout supplements? Additionally, I would appreciate some guidance on proper nutrition and a healthy diet to support my exercise routine. What kind of foods should I focus on before and after workouts? I want to ensure I am fueling my body correctly while maintaining overall health. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Workout supplements are good for temporary results but not for permanent results. Pre-workout meals are always important for better performance and better-sustained activities. That is why a complete routine is important with a proper diet rich in carbohydrates and protein with less or no fat. Natural food intake is always healthy in pre and post-workout patterns. Artificial supplements are always prone to some complications. Hence, at least two hours before the session a pre-meal can be taken and sufficient water intake should be done. After the workout, a protein-rich diet has to be taken. Avoid fibrous foods before the session to avoid bowel upset. I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
