Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a fitness enthusiast and try to eat healthy foods. Recently while reading an article online I came to know that ghee is supposed to be a great source of good fat but I am not sure. What do you suggest? Will including ghee in my diet help me or increase my liver issues? I have heard taking ghee regularly can cause blocked arteries. Can you help me and guide me on how I can incorporate ghee into my diet in a healthy way?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Though ghee is rich in fat, it contains high concentrations of monounsaturated omega-3. These healthful fatty acids support a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. Studies show that using ghee as a part of a balanced diet can help reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels. Ghee is created by removing milk solids.

For, liver-related ailments ghee is not the reason. Still, if you already have liver-related ailments like jaundice, fatty liver, and gastrointestinal pain, you should avoid ghee as it may cause serious organ issues. However, consuming ghee with strict moderation does not create a problem for the liver. Ghee is needed for bone health and many metabolisms. It is the combination where things go bad if you are taking ghee and regular oil and excess simple carbohydrates in a meal then definitely it will affect you.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
