What diet should I follow to gain weight as I have toxic liver hepatitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 22 years old and have been diagnosed with toxic liver hepatitis (now I have toxins in my liver and moderate fibrosis). Doctors told me to rest for at least three months and eat home food. I am taking medications. I am currently 90 lbs and look very skinny. What should I eat that is liver friendly and easily digestible to gain weight? Kindly suggest me some good meal plans.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I would suggest the following diet plan:

  1. At 7 a.m., three to four pieces of soaked almond or sprouts.
  2. For breakfast at 8.30 a.m., brown bread (4 pieces), boiled egg- three pieces or bread, and jam.
  3. At 11 a.m.- one glass of pineapple or banana milkshake.
  4. For lunch, boiled rice (200 gm), one bowl of vegetable curry, dal curry (Lentil curry)(50 gm), boiled chicken breast (150 gm), and half a cup of sour curd.
  5. Snacks- one bowl of chicken stew or semolina porridge.
  6. Dinner- four pieces of roti (flat bread) or 150 gm of rice with one bowl of paneer (cottage cheese) curry.

Also, I would suggest the following:

1. Do exercises like strength training or yoga.

2. Avoid stress and alcohol.

3. Take plenty of water, at least ten glasses a day.

4. Try to eat more quantity of food.

5. Before taking a meal, you can walk for some time as it helps you feel hungrier.

6. Sleep at least seven to eight hours a day.

7. You can include chocolate, pastry, cake, chips, butter, and ghee.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
