Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a male of age 28 years. I was diagnosed with dengue fever one week ago. I was having severe body pain, fever, and vomiting. Now my symptoms have reduced. My platelet count is 180,000 per ml. Is this normal? Still, I feel weak and tired. What diet can I follow to recover soon and gain strength? Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

If you were diagnosed with dengue one week ago then what medical treatment was followed? As for now, counts are good, but recovery is slow. You need to check for it again and take doctor's help with it. It cannot be recovered only with diet. Yes, weakness is very common post-infection as the body is trying to maintain body temperature and reduce inflammation.

  1. Include plenty of vitamin C-rich foods that have anti-oxidant properties such as gooseberry, colored peppers, citrus fruits, guava, broccoli, etc.
  2. Consume a lot of ginger and garlic in soups or teas. These have anti-viral properties. Ginger turmeric water or tea is a great option. Raw garlic or ginger with honey can soothe a sore throat.
  3. Fresh or dry turmeric has curcumin which is a great antibiotic and antiseptic. Consume turmeric milk or tea with a pinch of pepper.
  4. A concoction of tulsi, ginger, peppercorn, and cloves, boiled with water, and adding pure honey is a good option to boost immunity.
  5. Fermented foods such as homemade curd, kimchi, and pickled veggies provide probiotics, strengthening our gut and boosting immunity.
  6. Have a one-pot meal like pulse soup with tofu or paneer or Dal khichdi with curd
  7. Cut down on foods and drinks laden with sugar as sugars destroy the body's ability to fight infections.
  8. Last but not least, stay well hydrated with water, detox waters, soups, rasam, etc, and make your body strong to ward off infection.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
