Which grade of anemia needs a blood transfusion?

Hello doctor,

I have a history of anemia. I also just recently found out I have chronic gastritis. My iron is at a level of 41 percent, but my ferritin and saturation are low. How does that work? I have been on my iron pills. Do pins and needles and muscle weakness have anything to do with iron level?

What are the physical changes observed in the acute transformation of myelodysplastic disorder?

Hi doctor,

An elderly family member was diagnosed with overlap myeloproliferative or myelodysplastic disorder two years back. He is being treated by a hematologist who arranges regular blood tests and he is said to be "hematological stable". However, I understand that there can be an acute transformation over time and the hematologist would presumably be able to detect this. Are there any physical symptoms that the family can look for? Though he does not have now, could he get if he develops an acute transformation? His appetite has been in decline for a while. He does not experience night sweats at all and I am told that he does not have an enlarged spleen. What sort of physical changes might alert us if he develops an acute transformation? He is currently being treated with Hydroxyurea.

Should an enlarged spleen be a matter of concern?

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-years- old male, 5.61 feet, and 178 lbs. I have had an enlarged spleen of 5.51 inches to 5.91 inches since many years. No other symptoms and every six months I get my blood work done with normal results. Should I pursue this more? My pathologist says it could be my normal size spleen.

Do painful and inflamed lymph nodes suggest lymphoma?

Hello doctor,

I had inflamed and painful lymph nodes for a few months. I checked with a doctor, who advised me to take a few tests. My blood test shows high interleukin receptor 2 levels. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the inflamed lymph nodes showed benign changes. I am worried that I have lymphoma.

Please help.
