How do egg whites help in weight loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 40-year-old woman trying to shed some pounds, and my trainer suggested incorporating four egg whites into my daily diet for a high-protein boost. But here is the thing, I have never eaten that many eggs in a day before. Will chomping down on all those egg whites help me lose weight? And why just the white part, would not I pack on pounds instead of shedding them with that many eggs? I am feeling a bit skeptical about this whole egg situation. I mean, I am already carrying around some extra weight, so the last thing I want is to inadvertently put on more. It is like carrying a heavy load and then being told to add more weight to the pile does not quite add up, you know? Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Mainly, most trainers suggest high protein for weight loss, especially when you are doing weight training with them. It is normal for them to suggest four to six egg whites for muscle recovery after a workout. You can surely start with two eggs for a week then gradually add one more egg and later switch to four eggs a day, majorly its two whole eggs and the rest egg white. I can help you with detailed calculations about total protein intake if you mention your current height and weight along with the frequency of weight training per week and your weight loss goal. So you do not need to worry, gradually you need to add a good source of protein, initially 1 gm per ideal body weight. You can add milk and its products along with pulse and nuts tofu to meet up daily requirements of protein. I hope you find this information helpful.

Thank you.
