What is the optimal frequency and duration for strength training sessions?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male. I am planning to start doing strength training exercises daily. Please tell me the fundamentals of strength training. What are the potential health benefits gained with strength training? For someone new to strength training, what are the recommended steps to get started? What is the optimal frequency and duration to be followed for strength training sessions? How often should one engage in strength training to achieve its benefits? Are there specific types of exercises that should be included along with this strength training for a well-rounded approach?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Strength training is a type of resistance training that improves your muscle and bone strength and overall improves your physical health. Strength training activities should be included in every session three or four days a week. Weight training like therabands, gym balls, dumbbells, and it can also be performed by body weight alone. So, you should continue the strength training on a regular basis. You should start with a low-intensity workout and gradually increase with high intensity. Maintain the speed and volume according to your convenience and can increase the sets after two to three weeks.

I hope this helps you.

Revert in case of queries.

Regards.
