What is the importance of pre-work out nutrition?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been optimizing my nutrition for better exercise performance. Can you explain the importance of pre-workout nutrition and how it affects my workout? What are the best foods or nutrients to include before exercising? Are there specific timing recommendations for eating before a workout to maximize energy and performance? How does a healthy diet contribute to exercise effectiveness and recovery overall? Are there any common mistakes to avoid in pre-workout nutrition?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Pre-workout meals are always good for maintaining a proper exercise regimen as they give you better results. The pre-workout meal should be taken at least two hours prior to the workout time. You can also have a small carbohydrate snack before the commencement of the session. The meal should be rich in carbohydrates and protein but no fat. The pre-workout meal helps muscle recovery faster. It helps in energy retention and better performance. It also helps muscle build in a more homogenous way and enables you to sustain the activity for an extended period. Try to maintain a proper hydration level, which is of utmost importance. But make sure not to overintake any meal or water just five minutes before the workout as it might lead to stomach upset and irritability. After the workout, a post-workout meal is also essential for energy retention and overall body enhancement.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
