Etizolam Half-life

Etizolam is a benzodiazepine analog belonging to a group of drugs called thienodiazepines. It possesses amnesic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative, and muscle-relaxing properties. The plasma half-life of etizolam is 3.5 hours. Its effects may reach their peak at around three to four and may last for six to eight hours, depending on the rate of metabolism. Its active metabolite α-hydroxyetizolam displays a longer elimination half-life of 8 hours. The half-life is an essential indicator of the duration of action. Etizolam is very well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract; it quickly floods the brain and reaches peak levels 30 minutes to two hours after ingestion.
