Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am an 18-year-old male high school student. I have had Type 1 diabetes for about 5 years now, and lately, I have been struggling with keeping my blood sugar stable, especially with sports and extracurricular activities. Do you have any advice on how I could manage my blood sugar through physical activity? Any ideas would help.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern. Diabetes (A long-term metabolic condition characterized by elevated blood sugar, or glucose, levels in the body) is a disease that can be cured with a team approach. Physical activity plays an important role in preventing the symptoms by circulating the sugar level in the body and distributing it throughout the muscles, bones, and required tissues. Daily thirty minutes of any kind of physical activity is very beneficial to cut down the overcrowding of the sugar level in the blood.
First of all, it is important to follow a strict regimen throughout life, with initiation with any sort of low-intensity workout and gradually increasing the intensity. It depends on how your body is responding and thereby involving the body with respective activities.
Follow a pre and post-workout diet with advice from a nutritionist.
Avoid junk items and avoid quick fixes by having cookies or chips.
Avoid refined and oily foods with fiber-rich products. Mostly fresh veggies and fruits are preferred.
Again, consult a specialist to have particular fruits as you are diabetic.
You can add strength training, cardio activities, and any kind of sport that suits you.
Do not forget to hydrate yourself with sufficient water and avoid starving your body.
I hope this information will help you.
Kindly revert in case of queries.
Thank you.
