Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 35-year-old male concerned about my sedentary lifestyle. I work a desk job and rarely exercise, spending most of my free time watching TV. I know the World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, but I struggle to motivate myself. Can you suggest some easy ways to incorporate more physical activity into my daily routine? I am worried about the long-term health effects of my current lifestyle and want to make a change before it is too late.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for posting your query.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
One way to get motivated is to take the time to understand all the benefits that exercise can offer your body. Some benefits that you can expect from exercising include improvement in physical strength and better balance and coordination.
I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.
1. Encourage activities like jogging or cycling, where the individual can set their own pace.
2. Instead of a rigid exercise schedule, allow them to choose the days and times that work best for them.
3. Try reducing the time spent being sedentary.
4. Try standing rather than sitting on public transport.
5. Practice regular walking to work.
6. Taking walks during lunch breaks.
7. Setting reminders to stand up every 30 minutes when working at a desk.
8. Investing in a standing desk or asking the workplace to provide one.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
