Can lifestyle changes and medicine help in weight loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old male, and I am concerned about my weight. I weigh 174.3 pounds, and my height is just 5 feet. I am not able to walk to nearby places too, I get exhausted and sometimes breathless, too. I can understand that all these are due to my excess weight. What can be done now? Are there any types of medications to reduce my weight safely and quickly? Should I follow any diet restrictions and exercise along with this?

I am ready to do anything you suggest. Please help me to lose weight and look fit.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your age, maintaining a good weight is very important.

So, managing weight includes a combination of activities that need to be followed strictly on an everyday basis.

Considering the following points will help you to maintain optimum weight -

  1. Start with low-intensity workouts, such as mat activities, cardio, stretches, etc., which will help you initiate progress.

  2. After two weeks, you can see the progress and increase the repetitions according to your body's response.

  3. Follow a pre and post-workout meal to enhance the results after every workout session.

  4. A good diet with low carbohydrates and no fat before a workout, and high protein food afterward is best.

  5. Avoid alcohol, smoking, and fast foods.

  6. Try to maintain the weight with natural remedies and avoid medications as much as possible. But, you can consult a doctor personally for any bodily changes or symptoms that may trigger the problems.

  7. Include aerobic activities, deep breathing exercises, and meditation to increase the oxygen content in the body, which is required for calories burnt.

  8. Weight-bearing activities can be added gradually after a certain period with very light weights and then loading up further.

  9. Check your vitals and get good sleep with proper rest for the body to recover faster.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you.
