How to manage abdominal obesity?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 37 years old, and I have been struggling with abdominal obesity for a while now. I know that excess adipose tissue around the abdomen can cause a lot of health problems. I have started exercising, but I am not sure if I am doing the right workouts to target this specifically.

Can you suggest the best exercises or any other changes I should make to reduce abdominal fat and improve my overall health?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Abdominal fat is very common in ladies. So, there is a combination of activities that will help to reduce the fat.

Most importantly, diet and physical activity should go hand in hand. So, a variety of physical activity combinations can be included according to the response of your body.

  1. Mat exercises like pilates can be done with scissors, the whale, etc.

  2. Start slow with non-weight-bearing activities with higher repetitions and low intensity.

  3. Include warm-up stretches, conditioning, and cool-down phases to schedule.

  4. Include stretches to relax the muscles and then focus on the strength training.

  5. Tummy tuck exercises like bracing and centering can be included in different positions, like lying on a mat or sitting posture.

  6. Try to tuck in the stomach with inhalation, stay for five counts, and release. This will tighten up the core muscles and help in toning up the abdomen.

  7. Increase the hydration level of the body with frequent water intake.

  8. Focus on the affected part of the body and make changes accordingly.

  9. Walking for at least 30 minutes is another option that you can choose.

  10. If you like dance, then dance aerobics is a great way of moving your body with music on.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
