Joint Stiffness

The leading cause of stiff joints is rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Other causes include obesity, bursitis, autoimmune disorders like lupus and gout. While in arthritis, the stiffness of joints is experienced after a prolonged lack of joint movement, like while getting up in the morning after a night's sleep. But as the day progresses and the joint engages in activities, the stiffness reduces. But in the case of joint stiffness due to infection, the stiffness increases as the day progresses. Hot compress after waking up, reducing weight, exercising regularly, and pain medications are some methods to control pain and stiffness at home.
