Hip salvage surgery is a type of hip reconstruction procedure. The surgeon may use a collagen patch to repair the damaged or malformed hip bones and joints. The fat cells of the patient are collected from another part of the body and harvested prior to the surgery. After removing the damaged part of the hip along with surrounding soft tissue, the collagen patch is placed in the area along with a scaffolding of fat tissue. It has been proven as an effective method.
