Can Semaglutide help with weight loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 37 years old and trying to lose weight. My parents wondered if drinking green tea assists with weight loss. I heard it burns calories, but I am not sure. Also, someone mentioned Semaglutide. Is this a GLP-1 receptor agonist? What exactly does that mean? Can it be used in weight-loss programs instead of diet and exercise? Is this safe? I am looking for drinks that help with weight loss. Any recommendations? How much green tea should I consume if it is beneficial?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query and understand your concern.

Green tea primarily helps increase calorie expenditure, which can aid in burning more fat. However, it does not have a noticeable effect on how much food you eat throughout the day, and there is no evidence suggesting that green tea reduces calorie intake.

Semaglutide, on the other hand, mimics a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), which makes you feel less hungry and more full. It also helps lower blood sugar levels. However, if you experience severe symptoms like sudden stomach pain, nausea, or lightheadedness while using Semaglutide, it is important to consult your doctor immediately.

When discontinuing Semaglutide, patients may find their appetite returning, making it challenging to resist cravings, especially if the drug is stopped suddenly. To maximize weight loss while on Semaglutide, consider tips like eating small, frequent meals, choosing nourishing foods, drinking plenty of water, reducing alcohol intake, staying active, and rotating injection sites.

I hope that you got your answer.

Regards.
