Fracture Healing

Fracture healing is a complex process that takes place by two mechanisms: primary or direct healing and secondary or indirect healing. Direct healing involves the reduction of the fractured bone ends either through open reduction or internal fixation surgery. Indirect healing does not require reduction and some amount of motion and weight-bearing at the fracture site induces callus and secondary bone formation.
