Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with frequent abdominal pain, bloating, and unpredictable bowel movements. Are these due to any bowel disease? I have tried different things, like avoiding certain foods, but it is all so confusing, and nothing seems to consistently work. Could you please guide me on what kind of nutrition plan would be best for someone with these symptoms? Are there specific foods I should focus on or avoid?

Bloating can be a cause of hormonal insufficiency and wrong dietary habits. So, I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below.

1. Avoid salty foods as the sodium they contain increases the body’s water retention.

2. Eat more potassium-rich foods as they can help reduce period bloating by decreasing sodium levels and increasing urine production. This can reduce water retention and improve period bloating. Potassium-rich foods include spinach, sweet potato, bananas, avocados, and tomatoes.

3. Avoid refined carbohydrates such as white flour and processed sugars, as they can cause spikes in blood sugar levels. This increases the level of insulin in the blood, which causes the kidneys to retain more sodium. Increased sodium levels lead to more water retention.

4. Include dry fruits as having eight to ten pieces of soaked raisins in the morning will reduce the free testosterone level, manage the hormonal levels, and reduce menstrual pain.
