Benzodiazepines are antidepressants. They work by inhibiting brainstem monoaminergic arousal pathways inducing sleep. They reduce brain activity. Alprazolam, Chlordiazepoxide, Clonazepam, Clorazepate, Diazepam, etc., are some of the benzodiazepines. They are used to treat anxiety, depression, insomnia, seizures, etc. Headache, low blood pressure and increased salivation are some of the side effects of benzodiazepines.
