Anti-tpo Antibodies

Anti-TPO antibodies are the most common anti-thyroid antibodies present in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease. In this, the immune system attacks the normal tissues and produces antibodies. These antibodies attack the thyroid glands causing swelling and tenderness. TPO is called thyroid peroxidase, and it helps in the healthy functioning of the thyroid. A TPO test helps to detect antibodies against TPO in the blood.
