Achilles Tendon Rupture

The Achilles tendon is a rigid fibrous cord that joins the calf muscles with the heel bone. The rupture of the Achilles tendon causes a pop sound along with severe pain in the back of the lower leg and swelling in the heel. A partial rupture of the Achilles tendon can heal on its own, whereas a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon can be managed surgically.
