Can ovarian cysts prevent losing weight and conceiving?

Hi doctor,

I am currently overweight and trying to lose weight for a while but nothing has been working. I got an ultrasound done last year and many cysts on my ovaries were seen. We have also been trying to conceive for the past ten months. I am in my early thirties and I have a six years old boy. I had some blood work done yesterday and I will not be able to see my endocrinologist for another three weeks. I would like to have an opinion on my laboratory results while I do not see my doctor. Currently, I am not taking any medication.

How to deal with hypercalcemia?

Hello doctor,

I am afraid that I have hypercalcemia. I cannot sleep, my head hurts and my throat feels tight. I have heart palpitations and my muscles feel weak. I lie on the bed and feel like I am lying in stone. My right ear has been ringing. I had an electrolyte test five days ago. My calcium was 10.1 mg/dl, within the normal range. Potassium, magnesium, and sodium were normal too. Should I go to the emergency room? I cannot sleep a bit and I am so sleepy.

Thank you.

What could cause high sugar levels after an appendix removal?

Hi doctor,

A 19-year-old relative is experiencing severe stomach pain and diarrhea. A Friday CT scan (computed tomography) revealed substantial fluid and inflammation around the appendix, obstructing the view. The surgeon was uncertain about the extent of the inflammation. Additionally, the patient had a very high sugar level of 400, which was brought down to 200 using insulin. The appendix was subsequently removed the following morning, revealing a micro rupture that affected only the appendix. Post-surgery, the patient was prescribed antibiotics and insulin. However, his sugar level remains in the 200-300 range in the hospital setting. Despite visible improvement in the patient's condition, including eating and talking, he still complains of stomach pain. He is a 19-year-old individual with mild autism and, until now, no apparent chronic health issues. The family is seeking to understand the cause of this insulin-resistant high glucose and whether an infection or damage to the pancreas could be the contributing factor. The family desires clear communication and information about the ongoing treatment. Currently, they feel left in the dark and are contemplating discussing the situation with someone and exploring the possibility of transferring the patient to another facility.

Thank you.

Can Prolia injections lead to elevated levels of PTH?

Hi doctor,

I am currently receiving Prolia injections. I received my first shot six months ago and my second shot five days ago. My question is regarding PTH blood results. My PTH eight months ago was 76 pg/mL. Last month it was 169 pg/mL. I was wondering if the Prolia injection can cause it to elevate. Also, I was told by my former endocrinologist that I have FHH despite normal findings on the CaSR test and that it is an entirely benign entity that should cause me no concern. I have attached my laboratory test results for you to check. Please help.

What could be the reason for sweating and palpitations after a sugary meal?

Hi doctor,

I have been getting weird symptoms after eating a carbohydrate-rich or sugary meal for the past 12 to 18 months. My symptoms include sweating, palpitations, etc. I had a dinner with lots of white bread, and other sugary dishes, with honey and bread, a few days ago. I did not feel well in the morning, so I checked my sugar level, which was 60 mmol. I went to the emergency room and got all the usual blood work done, CBC, liver and kidney function tests, and everything was normal. I understood that my symptoms point to reactive hypoglycemia based on my research on the internet. I have taken down notes of the levels after different kinds of food. I also tested myself several times at night when I did not eat such food (my results at night are in the normal range). My father has type 2 diabetes. I would like to hear your opinion on what I should do next. I am taking Warfarin and Plaquenil to treat APS syndrome. Please help.

Thank you.
