What has been causing pain in my wisdom tooth and how it can be managed?

Hello doctor,

My wisdom tooth has been causing pain for the past month. After taking medicine, the pain subsided, but the swelling in my gums continued to increase. I experienced a similar episode of pain and infection in my wisdom tooth six months ago. At that time, I did not seek medical attention, and the pain eventually resolved on its own. Currently, my gums around the wisdom tooth are infected and filled with pus. I have also undergone X-rays. Kindly help.

Is root canal treatment required for a broken tooth without any pain?

Hello doctor,

A part of my tooth was broken in an accident, and it has not been causing any pain. However, it has been ten years since the accident occurred. I visited a nearby dentist who took an X-ray of the tooth. He pointed out a black spot at the root tip of the broken tooth and recommended a root canal to fix it. Should I proceed with the root canal procedure?

Is it safe to proceed with the surgical intervention of the decayed molar without taking antibiotics?

Hello doctor,

I have one molar tooth that never fully grew out, and I have not taken care of it properly. As a result, it has decayed. Recently, I experienced a lot of pain and noticed swollen gums that now cover half of the tooth. There is also a large hole in the middle. I visited a dental surgeon who prescribed the tablet Amoxil to treat the infection. However, the prescription is only for nine days, and I still have to wait for five days until my surgery. I am concerned that the infection may return during this time. Is it safe to proceed with the surgery after going five days without antibiotics, or could bacteria enter my bloodstream? This situation does not feel right. Please share your valuable advice.

Thank you.

Is burning sensation in the face and inside the nose related to TMJ disorder?

Hello doctor,

I am a 46-year-old female. I was diagnosed with a TMJ disorder a few months back. I have had an ongoing numbness of the tongue on the right side for about nine months. I also have sore teeth and gums, facial pain, numbness, and tingling all over my face. Now my face and the inside of my nose are burning and it feels like my gums are burning a little too. I also have sinus pressure, headaches, extreme dizziness (especially while riding in a vehicle), stuffy ears, and tinnitus. I know a lot of these symptoms are caused by TMJ disorder, but I am not sure about the burning sensation or sore teeth and gums. I also recently found out I have a decayed upper molar on the right side. I am not sure if that could be causing some of these symptoms. I also see floaters a lot. I had one-sided tongue numbness three years ago which came on suddenly and subsided after two months. I am currently taking Humalog, Metformin, Invokana, Lisinopril, Atorvastatin, and Omeprazole. I have also done a CT scan of the brain, a CBCT scan of the jaw, and blood work. All have been normal.

Could my symptoms denote occipital neuralgia or trigeminal neuralgia?

Thank you.
