Q. I lost 50 pounds of my weight without following strict diet. How do I maintain my weight?

Hi doctor,

I just found out most people regain their weight after weight loss mostly because of the weight set point and everything and I am really terrified that is going to happen to me. I do not know what to do. So I have lost 50 lbs in nine months pretty easily. Sometimes, I eat under 500 calories, other times over 2000 (and still lost weight fast) or at maintenance or at the healthy markers depending on the periods. So I have not exactly done it slowly or the right way. Basically what I want to know is can I keep my current weight and no regain even if I lost my weight as I did? If yes, how? And if yes, how long do I need to wait until I can lose weight again (still have 30 lbs to go)? Or can I continue now?

I am a 19-year-old female with sw: 215 lbs, cw:161 lbs and height: 5.8 feet.

As per your height, you have almost reached your goal, you just need to reduce 5 to 6 kg more. No need to go for more weight loss diets, now you can opt for a maintenance diet.

There are chances that you might gain back some of the lost weight, but if you keep yourself active like doing jogging, brisk walking, or even cycling for around 35 to 40 minutes each day, you can easily keep those lost pounds at the bay. Also, try eating a fibre rich diet which includes fresh fruits and salads.

Target for only one day per week as a cheat day, where you can go beyond your target calories. And only once or twice a month for a low-calorie diet or you can go for intermittent fasting. Rest days make sure you are eating at least 1500 kcal which includes all healthy meals.
