Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 18-year-old male. My height is 5 feet 10 inches, and weight is 276 lbs, and my BMI is 41. I am currently taking tablet Topamax. My query is, how can I lose weight? I have tried everything, but nothing worked. I guess my depression is the reason. I do not have the motivation to exercise regularly.
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I understand your concern.
You are just 18 years old now. It is effortless to lose weight, provided you do your diet and exercise regularly. I suggest you involve in any sports like badminton, basketball, or football. Regarding diet, it is advisable to avoid junk foods, processed foods, alcohol, sodas, fried snacks, bakery products, meats, etc.
Eat healthy, nutritious foods and follow the food timings properly. Try to keep yourself active for the whole day. Concentrate more on simple exercises like brisk walking for atleast one hour a day. You can go jogging or cycling also. Keep changing the exercise pattern so that you do not get bored.
Since you are young, you can lose weight by having a proper diet and regular exercise. You need to reduce around 50 kilograms. It can happen in one and a half years. As you grow older, weight loss will become difficult, and you may require medications or surgery. Now it is possible for you.
Regarding your mental health, you can talk to your doctor about the medications which you are taking. It can also cause depression. See if you can get any other alternatives.
Take care and regards.
