Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been visiting this weight loss center where they provide me with water or juice infused with chia seeds every day. Initially, I thought it was great and healthy, but now I am questioning if it is truly okay to consume this daily. Can you have too much of a good thing? While chia seeds are known for their nutritional benefits, I am concerned that drinking them daily might have some negative effects. What is the real story with these tiny seeds? Are they as effective for weight loss as the center claims, or are there potential downsides I should be aware of?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Chia seeds, known for their rich nutritional profile including omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, and antioxidants, have gained popularity for their health benefits. Experts suggest a daily intake of one to two tablespoons, as excessive consumption can lead to digestive discomfort.
Approximately 75 percent of the fats in chia seeds are omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), while about 20 percent are omega-6 fatty acids. Chia seeds are considered one of the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids, even surpassing flaxseed. These tiny seeds are also abundant in Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and minerals, and can be easily added to any food. Health benefits of chia seeds include:
Reducing blood pressure.
Lowering cholesterol levels.
Supporting digestive health.
Aiding in weight management.
Reducing inflammation.
Helping to control diabetes.
Protecting against chronic diseases.
Improving anxiety and depression.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please, let me know if you want some help.
Thank you.
