Which medications are effective in managing stress?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the past three years, I have been experiencing a significant amount of stress. As a result, I have begun to lose hair, developed dark circles under my eyes, and started gaining weight. Whenever I mention my anxiety, people often suggest trying yoga, practicing breathing techniques, or meditating, but none of these methods have worked for me. I am convinced that medication is the only way to relieve my tension.

Could you please assist me in finding stress relief medication?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Nonpharmacological and pharmacological therapies should be used together to manage stress. If nonpharmacological approaches, such as yoga, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques, do not provide relief, you may consider starting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Sertraline or Escitalopram. These medications have both antianxiety and antidepressant properties. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
