Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am looking for a detailed explanation of the rest days and their importance. Kindly answer the query as elaborately as possible. Your answer will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Rest and recovery are the two sides of the same coin in days in which we don't work out. 24/7 workouts are not recommended as our body is not well equipped to handle stress all the time. When we exercise, our stress hormones are released and keep us in check against our fluctuating sugars and BP (blood pressure).
Rest includes adequate sleep of eight to 10 hours per day. Catching up during weekends will never equalize your daily requirement for sleep. Sleep rejuvenates the body, causes the secretion of growth hormones, improves one's memory, and combats stress. It is one of the easiest, most economic stress busters, which we do not give importance to.
Adequate hydration includes drinking a minimum of two to three liters of water daily. Water helps in detoxification and is also the medium of transport for many minerals and trace elements in the body. Always go for drinking water when you feel thirsty rather than soft drinks, which will never quench your thirst or provide any minerals. They contain toxic chemicals which can damage one's gastrointestinal tract.
Consuming lots of fruits and vegetables will not only provide the essential nutrients and vitamins but also healthily aid in weight loss.
Yoga asanas not only improve the flexibility of muscles but also improve blood circulation to various parts of the body. Hence, practicing yoga for around 15 to 20 minutes per day will keep you away from chronic ailments like BP, asthma, and other conditions.
A break in routine workouts will not only improve our body metabolism but will also keep us mentally fit in the long run.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
