Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am pregnant. What exercises can I do during pregnancy? Is it safe to exercise while pregnant? Can I exercise during a high-risk pregnancy? Can IVF (in vitro fertilization)-treated patients exercise regularly? How many hours of exercise are recommended each day?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Walking is a great form of exercise. Swimming is also highly beneficial during pregnancy because the water helps support your increased weight. Other helpful activities include prenatal yoga, aerobics classes, and pelvic floor and abdominal exercises. During pregnancy, avoid any activities with jerky, bouncing movements that may cause you to fall, such as horseback riding, downhill skiing, off-road cycling, gymnastics, or skating. Additionally, sports where you could get hit in the belly, like ice hockey, boxing, soccer, or basketball, should be avoided.
You can start exercising at any time during your pregnancy. If you are not used to exercising, begin with 10-minute sessions and gradually increase to 30 or 40 minutes. Avoid contact sports such as boxing, rugby, or football, and activities where falling is a risk, such as horse riding or climbing. Light cardio activities like walking or swimming can be incredibly beneficial during an IVF (in vitro fertilization) pregnancy. In most cases, mild to moderate exercise provides both physical and psychological benefits. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, consult your obstetrician to choose safe activities for you and your baby.
Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
