How to manage obesity with a proper diet plan?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 240 lbs and 5 ft in height. I am not diabetic but obese. I monitor my eating diligently as I need to lose weight. Every day, my fat consumption is over the recommended amount. The fat intake is always over and sometimes doubled. What food can I consume to increase protein and lower fat? Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

All possible food has a combination of carbohydrates, fat, and proteins. Food options need to be checked for their content for losing weight.

  1. Feast on colorful foods: Fill your plate with vibrant fruits and veggies.
  2. Consume plenty of grains and legumes. Whole grains like oatmeal, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, chickpea pasta, and cereals are all great high-fiber options. Black, red, and kidney beans are high in fiber and antioxidants.
  3. Choose proteins & fats wisely. You need a balance of lean protein (like skinless chicken), fatty fish like salmon (with omega-3 fats), and vegetable protein like 2% milk or fat-free milk or low-fat paneer or cheddar cheese.
  4. Avoid trans and saturated fats, like fats found in butter, margarine, salad dressing, fried foods, snack foods, and sweets. Vegetable oils (like olive oil and peanut oil) are good fats.
  5. If you using ready-to-cook or eat products, do check the labels and accordingly add a serving.
  6. I suggest you consult a specialist for a personalized diet plan.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
