Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My period was 21 days late this month, but it is not as heavy as usual and is only moderate flow. I was worried that I might be pregnant as I usually have regular periods. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Pregnancy is possible if you feel you had unprotected sex around the time of ovulation. This type of bleeding is seen in early pregnancy, implantation bleeding, or even threatened miscarriage. All you need to do is complete a urine pregnancy test with an early morning urine sample. Even if the bleeding has happened, blood hormone levels will not just disappear. Another possibility to be thought of is anovulation. If you have a hormone imbalance, it will interfere with normal ovulation patterns, and periods can get delayed for days or months, or years.

Common causes for this:

1. PCOD (polycystic ovarian disorder).

2. Thyroid or prolactin abnormality.

3. Severe physical or mental stress.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
