What is the best treatment for a limp?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am unable to walk properly as I am limping, and it is affecting my left leg. The limp happens automatically, but there is no pain in my heel right now. Previously, there was pain, but it usually appears when I wake up.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

There are a variety of potential reasons for a limp, even if you are not feeling pain in the heel right now. It could be related to muscle strain, a ligament issue, or even something like a mild injury or inflammation that might have subsided. Since you are noticing the limp without pain in the heel but it still appears when walking it. Check if your shoes are providing proper support. Sometimes improper shoes can affect your gait and cause limping.

Even if you do not have pain now, it is possible there was a previous strain. Resting the leg might help with any residual tension or strain. Weak muscles or tightness in the calf or lower back can sometimes cause an altered walking pattern. Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises might help. Do icing twice a day, better if you change your footwear.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
