How to treat my father's high blood pressure post-COVID?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

After the COVID-19 pandemic, I find a difference in my father, as his anxiety and stress have increased. His blood pressure is around 160 mmHg and never decreases, but he takes his medicine normally. He is 48 years old. Can you give me advice to help my father's stress and anxiety?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

1) I would like to know how many years he has had the blood pressure, and please mention his medication dosages and names.

2) In recent times, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people of all age groups are suffering from anxiety and stress.

3) I would also like to know the reason for his stress. What made him so stressed? Because the reasons can be many. Whether it is due to financing, health, or any other factors?

4) It would be good if you elaborate a little more about the cause of his stress and anxiety.

5) Since he is 48 years old his stress and anxiety levels can be managed with proper counseling and therapy.

6) Whenever he is anxious, please ask him to calm down by taking a few deep breaths up to five counts.

7) It would be good if he takes a proper counseling session so that the exact issue can be found and the treatment can be planned.

Thank you.
