Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am in a job which has a lot of sitting and driving. I also slept with someone that I had slept with many times before. Recently, I woke up with intense or nerve-like burning in my back and lower body. I have a history of severe anxiety and depression and immediately assumed that I had herpes but my doctor said there were no spots of sores, he believes the burning was some nerve irritation due to the tightness of my hips and back which were extremely tight and significantly tighter than normal when this was happening. I developed a rash on my scrotum, no bumps or anything and it did look like eczema from scratching because of the paranoia. My doctor said there is likely some nerve irritation that has something to do with extreme tightness and not to be concerned with it. I am wondering if between the tightness and anxiety, what could be causing these issues? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern but from your entire description, it does not seem to be any serious organic illness. Symptoms do not fit into any particular STD (sexually transmitted disease) as well. I suggest that there are two possibilities, one is certainly anxiety-related and psychological issues, and the other one is due to spinal issues like disc prolapse or spondylosis of the lumbar spine. Nerve compression can very well cause all your problems including stiffness, burning, tingling, and numbness if any. I suggest you follow the following steps:

1. Get one X-ray of the lumbar spine AP (anteroposterior) or lateral view.

2. Get an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan done if the X-ray is not adequately informative.

3. For treatment, continue physiotherapy and take some medicine like Neurobion forte (vitamin B supplement) once a day and nerve stabilizers like Pregabalin (gamma-aminobutyric acid), which can be started after confirming the diagnosis.

I hope this helps you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
