Can men quit weed and live a healthy lifestyle?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am still trying to figure out how to return to the healthy state I used to be in. I used to be a binge eater, and I did not realize how extreme it was until now. I used to eat a lot, especially before going to bed, and I never felt unwell because I used to smoke marijuana, which made it feel okay. However, I no longer have an appetite.

I would sometimes experience a slight burning sensation in my abdomen, but that was the only negative symptom for a while. I then began having muscle spasms, and I still do not feel like myself. My breathing was shallow, likely due to all the undigested food, so I started doing yoga and working out more.

Now, I can not eat a normal meal without becoming bloated, and I have severe gas problems when I urinate. I would appreciate some guidance on how to get back on track. What foods should I consume? I suspect I might have low stomach acid, but I am not sure. What should I do next? Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Do not worry. Everyone makes mistakes, but I appreciate how quickly you have learned from them and are eager to improve. It is encouraging to find people like you who self-reflect and make our job easier. You can certainly return to being healthy. The first step is to completely abstain from marijuana.

Drugs, smoking, and alcohol are significant obstacles to good health. As you might know, marijuana can lead to tolerance, and prolonged use can gradually affect your body systems. This can result in breathing difficulties, an increased risk of cancer from smoking, and issues like indigestion and hyperacidity.

You might also experience gastritis, coordination problems, memory loss, and even hallucinations. Instead of worrying about past actions, focus on prevention. Eat healthily, aim to walk 1.86 to 2.48 miles daily, as walking improves your circulatory system and overall fitness, and avoid drug use. Steer clear of fatty and junk foods.

It seems you might be dealing with some GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). I recommend taking Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily, 30 minutes before breakfast, for the next two weeks to help with bloating. Muscle spasms can result from overtraining or stress, so try to relax and consider focusing on moderate-intensity walking and cardio for now.

It is not too late to make a positive change. As long as you have stopped using marijuana, your symptoms should improve within two weeks of taking this medication.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
