How can I get rid of my hamstring muscle twitching?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Five months ago, I was playing a match. I just stretched my right leg and heard “Crrkkhh” at the bottom of my right buttock. I thought that did not sound too good. I rested for three months and started playing but still could not stretch. I thought it was the tendon buttock hamstring. If so, please tell me how to get rid of it and how long it will take to heal.

I am waiting for your answer. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

The sound may be due to overstretching of the hamstring muscle or the hip joint. When you play a game, sometimes unknowingly, you put a lot of strain on your lower leg muscles. Do not be panic about it. As you said, you resumed playing again, so it might not be a muscle fiber tear. Have an x-ray of the lower leg to confirm the hip joint and bone status. For the next month, do not try to stretch the hams forcefully. Instead, do simple, low-resistance, and high-repetition exercises like static bicycling- lie flat on a mat, bend your knee and hip to 90 degrees, and start moving your legs like a bicycle pedaling. This will help you with the knee and hip without much effort on your hams, but it should be slow and rhythmical. Do not lie on the painful side at night. You can apply a hot pack whenever there is pain at that point. Do not massage the area. Put a towel rolled up under the buttock region. Now try to press down the towel with your buttock. You can also perform kegel exercises by lying flat on the bed or sitting to squeeze your buttock (affected side). Maintain for up to 30 seconds and then release.

If you follow the instructions and do the test as soon as possible, you will be fit by one month.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
