Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife has had a burning sensation on her inflamed tongue for the last three months. A surgeon diagnosed it correctly as glossitis. After three ENT doctors treated her for hyperacidity unsuccessfully. But glossitis in allopathy does not have any straightforward cure. Can you suggest non-allopathy medicine for the glossitis?

Answered by Dr. Arul Amuthan L

Hello,

Welcome to iciniq.com.

As you told glossitis has no direct remedy in allopathy. But if you correct the cause, you can get permanent relief. Chronic gastritis (peptic ulcer), folic acid deficiency, dental appliance (related allergy or irritation), tongue biting due to sharp-edged teeth or habit, less sleep (so body pitha elevation), dryness of mouth, less water drinking, stressful life, eating spicy foods, chewing hard food or snacks, etc. are some of the causes for chronic glossitis. So, I request you to find out the exact cause so that you can overcome it. From an herbal medicine perspective, I am suggesting the following, and I request that you consult a specialist and take the following medications with their consent.

1) Folic acid tablet 10 mg, two tablets in the morning, afternoon, and night after food.

2) Eat curd in food. Take buttermilk whenever feeling thirsty. Drink more water. Eat less spicy foods.

3) Nannaari Manappagu (Paru Nannari and Sarkkarai) syrup is the best herbal remedy. One spoonful of this is to be mixed with a cup of water and consumed. It is to be drunk before food in the morning, afternoon, evening, and night four times a day. You may buy it from a nearby Ayurvedic medical shop or order online.

Make sure she is getting proper sleep and no stress. Within a week, she can experience improvement. I suggest you continue it for one month. Later also, if necessary, just reduce the frequency or dose or both.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife has been on the prescribed Ayurveda medicine for the last three weeks. But hardly any respite. Her only hope is Ayurveda which has cured us of many problems deemed incurable by allopathy. So can you suggest something additionally?

Answered by Dr. Arul Amuthan L

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Please continue Nannaari Manappagu syrup and folic acid tablets compulsory. Also, drink lots of liquids (water or buttermilk) that rehydrate the oral cavity. In addition, use an oral rinse for gargling every third hour. With the above suggestions, it must be improved in two weeks. If not, it might be a severe vitamin deficiency, fungal infection, any dental appliance that irritates the tongue, chronic gastritis, or severe stress. But with the current advice, all the above causes could be corrected. In some people, xerostomia (less secretion of oral saliva) also can behave like this. In such cases, frequently, water should be consumed little by little to wet the mouth. But the above-said medications are enough.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife has been religiously following your advice for the last four months. Maybe it is time to try a fresh approach. The pain can be quite bad sometimes for her.

Answered by Dr. Arul Amuthan L

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the previous history, I could understand that the exact cause is yet to be diagnosed. It might be due to dental braces, fungal infection, viral infection, dry mouth syndrome (xerostomia), iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, or some intestinal diseases (peptic ulcer, colon diseases that leads to malabsorption). So, I suggest you visit a dentist to diagnose the exact cause so that suitable treatment can be given. The diagnosis can be made by physical visualization, microbial tests, biopsy, etc. If there are any abdominal symptoms (burning sensation in the chest or stomach, diarrhea, or flatulence), then it might be due to chronic intestinal disease. So, now I suggest you take the following two drugs after consulting a specialist and with their consent.

1) Nannaari Manappagu syrup. One spoon of this is to be mixed with a cup of water and drank. It is to be drunk before food in the morning, afternoon, evening, and night four times a day. You may buy from a nearby Ayurvedic medical shop or order online.

2) Thayir chundi (Rock salt, Glass salt, Alkaline earth salt, Sodium chloride, Zingiber officinale, and Cows milk) tablet, four tablets morning, afternoon, and evening 30 minutes before food. Consume this tablet along with a cup of buttermilk.

These drugs can cure intestinal-related or nutritional deficiency-related glossitis. But, it will not cure dental, fungal, or viral-related glossitis. For that, a better diagnosis is needed first with the help of a dentist. Even some type of abnormal tongue growth also mimics this way in the initial days.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
