Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am concerned about my mental health and suspect I may be dealing with an eating disorder, particularly anorexia nervosa. Can you provide insights into the signs and symptoms of anorexia nervosa? What are the recommended steps for seeking help and support for mental health concerns related to eating disorders?

Thank you.

Hi,

We welcome you to the icliniq.com family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling, but it is good that you are seeking help. The signs of anorexia nervosa include extreme weight loss, obsessive calorie counting, distorted body image, excessive exercise, and denial of hunger. It is important to reach out to a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis and evaluation. Additionally, seeking support from friends, family, or support groups can be beneficial. Remember, you are not alone, and some people can help you through this.

There is non-pharmacological management for it, which you can try to deal with. It includes:

1. Exercising daily, like walking for 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. I suggest you sit in a place in comfortable position, and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts. It will help you to relax.

3. Try eating healthy home-cooked foods. I suggest eating small quantities of food but increasing the frequency.

4. You must drink enough water.

5. You should spend quality time with friends and family daily.

6. You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.

7. You should get at least seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

8. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any other substance abuse.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please, let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.
