Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
What are the unhealthiest food combinations and why? For example, raw broccoli included in vegetable smoothies causes severe stomach aches. I need an elaborate answer.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
First of all, there are some vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts, all members of the cruciferous family, that are not well accepted by the stomach when raw. Therefore, there is no question of consuming them raw; they should always be cooked, preferably with less oil and fewer spices, during your daily meals, whether lunch or dinner.
Drinking coffee or tea immediately after consuming lemon or vitamin C, or vice versa, produces stomach irritation. Wine consumed with fried foods, such as fried or roasted chicken, mutton, or similar incompatible foods, produces heavy gas and stomach acid. Some marine fish consumed with certain vegetables, such as spinach and other greens, may cause gastric problems.
Opposing multiple qualities: If two foods have multiple opposing qualities, their combination is usually declared incompatible. For example, honey and ghee in equal quantities. Consuming curds at night or consuming excess sweets at night is also inadvisable. If fish is “hot” and milk is “cold,” they vitiate the blood and obstruct circulation channels. All sour substances and sour fruits, such as sour mango and sour pomegranate, are incompatible with milk.
Horse gram with milk is a bad combination. Black pepper consumed along with fish or during the digestion of fish is not recommended. Banana consumed with buttermilk is contraindicated. Chicken and spotted deer should not be taken with curds. Uncooked meat consumed with animal bile is harmful. Sheep meat consumed with leaves of the Kusumba herb is incompatible. Germinated grains consumed with lotus stalk (lakucha phala or wild jack) along with black gram soup is inadvisable. After consuming green leafy vegetables and radish, drinking milk should be avoided. Radish consumed with black gram is forbidden. Curds consumed with palm dates are undesirable.
I hope this helps.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply. I have more questions.
I also need the effects that the food combination and why they are caused. Can you give me the effects and the reason for the following points:
There is also the consumption of coffee, tea, and immediately after lemon or vitamin C, or vice versa - Aloe vera produces stomach irritation.
Some marine fish, with certain vegetables like spinach and greens, could cause gastric problems.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
Thanks for your further interest in food combinations.
There are valid reasons for food combinations that are always helpful. This practice is intended to improve our health, considering climate, region, caste, community, and cultural variations. Most importantly, nutritionists and food scientists advocate this concept to enhance nutrition and digestion. The process involves taste, ingestion, assimilation, absorption, and excretion. All of these stages must operate smoothly. Overall, nutritive foods support proper metabolism, increasing energy, fitness, immunity, and freedom from disorders.
Tea and coffee are stimulants that diminish the antioxidant activity of vitamin C found in sour products like lemon. This is a chelation reaction that occurs either immediately or subsequently. Similar to how calcium and vitamin D3 enhance absorption, tea and coffee can sometimes cause reactions and gastric irritation. Additionally, hot liquids degrade the quality of vitamin C.
There are many studies and ongoing research on aloe vera. It is mainly a source of vitamin E, while vitamins E, D, A, and K are all fat-soluble. According to some studies, excessive intake of fat-soluble vitamins can lead to liver, stomach, intestinal, and kidney disorders due to fat deposition in the tissues of these organs.
Marine fish are rich in minerals and unsaturated fats, which most people still lack worldwide. When consumed with heavy fibrous, starchy, or cellulose-rich foods, indirect reactions (chelation) can occur in chyme within the stomach. This is due to the improper production and function of enzymes like amylase and sucrase, along with pepsin. In this context, pepsin activity decreases while other enzymes become imbalanced overall. This can lead to increased fat, improper digestion of carbohydrates, and reduced efficacy of fiber in green spinach sources of vitamin A. These findings are based on studies yet to be conclusively established. There are many related topics, but time does not permit further elaboration.
I hope this helps.
