are there any supplements to gain weight?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male weighing 110 pounds and 5.8 feet tall. For the past two years, I have been experiencing digestive issues. I have lost weight during my initial illness and have not recovered it. I had an increased frequency of defecation which is currently reduced to one time. My health condition has been improving but not fully recovered. I have lost weight and have become very thin.

I got my ultrasound abdomen, ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP (C reactive protein), LFT (Liver function test), CBC (Complete blood count), stool OBT (fecal occult blood test), RM (urine analysis) tests where all the results were normal except for stool test. OBT report stated the presence of excess food remnants and vegetable cells in it.

I have taken ATT for a year for enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes which subsided the condition but could not treat my digestive issues. I am currently taking zandu pancharista. Please help me and suggest if I have to take any supplements. I have known through other sources that L- glutamine is a good supplement for healing intestinal walls. Should I consider taking it? Kindly help.

Thank you, doctor.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you follow the below-listed precautions:

  1. Consume enough water as it is the best way of improving the digestive system.

  2. Start a balanced diet with fewer dietary products and lots of fruits.

  3. Have coconut water daily.

  4. Take green leafy vegetables and start doing yoga twice daily.

  5. Have home-cooked food, and avoid spicy, salty, and sugary items.

  6. As of now, do not start with any supplement until the stool test is normal. Once the test results are normal, you will be able to gain weight.

I hope this answers your concern.

Thank you.
