Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I recently gave birth. I have a beautiful family, and I must be happy, but I am sad and clueless. I feel dejected, and I am not able to enjoy my life with the baby or with my husband. I had a difficult pregnancy, and my family supported me, but now everyone focuses on the baby, and I am let out. Since I did not sleep for many days, I feel exhausted and frustrated.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
It seems that you are going through postpartum depression. The symptoms, as you explained, point towards it. In simple language, it is called "Baby blues". Its prevalence is as high as 25 %.
Symptoms include -
Insomnia.
Anxiety.
Sadness.
Helplessness.
Lack of concentration.
Forgetfulness.
Crying spells.
Neutral feelings toward the newborn - the expectation of delight following birth may not be present.
I understand that it can be very disheartening, but it can be tackled. Consult an obstetrician and gynecologist about it. There are medications that can help, and you can also begin talk therapy. Be compassionate to yourself. Allow yourself to heal physically and emotionally. Try yoga nidra or guided meditation to relax. Take plenty of rest. Be mindful, and do not criticize yourself.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
