How to manage depressive symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female. I am struggling with mental stress. I do not want to live. I do not believe that this is a good life for me. I am lost in this confused world. I have never lived with my parents since I was three months old; instead, I lived with my maternal grandparents, who loved me and kept me happy all the time. I am not attached to my parents, and I hate them because money is the only thing that they need. Then, when I passed the tenth grade, my grandmother became ill, and so I did all of the housework, including cleaning, washing, and cooking. I fell in love with a guy with whom I shared my worries and found fresh hope in life. After some days, we broke up, and I was once again left alone. It has been three to four years since our breakup, and I am still at that stage. I scored poorly in my academics, failed a few subjects, and had some other stressful problems. I do not know what to do. I just want to sleep, die, or run away from home.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You seem to be suffering from depressive symptoms as a result of stressors in life. I would like to give you some guidance:

  1. Life is full of ups and downs. It is not always the same.
  2. Never get perturbed by the current situation.
  3. Just as you are in the down phase, you will also experience an upward shift in life.
  4. Life is never a smooth sailing boat.
  5. Get into a new hobby.
  6. Focus on your career at present.
  7. After all, life is much more than all these.

I suggest you take the tablet Zosert 50 mg (Sertraline) twice daily along with tablet Lonazep (Clonazepam) 0.5 mg at night for two weeks. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him/her, and take the medicines with their consent. You can review with me for further follow-up.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
