What could be the reason for recurring ankle sprain at the same point?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I sprained my ankle thrice within three months in the same place. I applied ice at that time. But I still fall from twisting my ankle. Should I get an X-ray of my ankle? Should I consult a chiropractor? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I read your query and understand your concern.

I feel your ankle is not getting enough support from the muscles, which could have got inhibited during earlier episodes of your ankle sprain.

I would like to know if you have any episodes of your ankle giving way or if there is any loose feeling. If so, then I would suggest an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) know the ankle's integrity. Otherwise, I would suggest starting with ankle proprioception and balance exercises, ankle strengthening, and glute strengthening exercises. Also, keep a watch on the footwear you use. That might also cause your problem.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
