Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 15-year-old daughter is struggling with obesity, and I am deeply concerned about her health. She is 5.1 feet tall and weighs 176 pounds.
Throughout her childhood, I have always provided her with good and healthy foods, and she has never been a picky eater. She has always eaten whatever we offered and whenever we offered it, without saying no. However, this has contributed to her current weight gain, and I am now unsure how to help her manage her weight effectively.
Could you please guide me on how I can support her in addressing her obesity? I would appreciate recommendations for dietary changes, physical activity, and any other strategies that could help improve her health and well-being.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Your concern about your daughter’s weight gain is noted. As you mentioned, her eating habits have developed over the years based on a pattern of eating whatever and whenever food was offered. This has likely contributed to an eating cycle where her body now demands more calories than it actually requires. Hormonal factors may also play a role in this.
To help her manage her weight, it’s important to gradually reduce her calorie intake. For example, if her daily intake is around 2500 kcal, start by reducing it by 100 kcal initially, then gradually decrease by 200 kcal and so on, until her intake matches the recommended calories for her height and weight.
Additionally, I would need more information about her physical activity level and daily routine to provide a detailed diet chart. Incorporating low-calorie, nutrient-dense snacks can also help establish a healthier diet regime.
Please provide the necessary details about her activity level and preferences so we can create a suitable plan for her.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
