Patient's Query
Hello doctor, My brother is 20 years old. His psoriasis is getting worse. He is a professional athlete, and these skin patches are affecting his performance. They started small but now it has covered large areas of his body. He cannot compete effectively because of constant discomfort. Is there a connection between physical stress and psoriasis? Our family has some autoimmune history. Please suggest.
Hello, Welcome to ciliniq.com. I read your query and can understand your concern. Yes, psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory disease of the skin and if left untreated keeps progressing and may involve organs like bones and joints. Physical stress has a role in this but mainly dietary habits and lifestyle habits have a major role as in many people psoriasis is associated with gastrointestinal-gut health. Along with dermatologist-prescribed medical treatment, lifestyle and dietary adaptations have helped a lot of people to come out of psoriasis by avoiding wheat, bakery items like pizza, and bread, spicy and sour foods, stale foods like yesterday's food and almost always having fresh foods, keeping well hydrated, taking healthy liquids most of the time, applying medicated moisturizer like Cetaphil, having lukewarm water one to three times a day, washing the scars, patches with medicated soaps like Acnestar (Benzoyl peroxide) and applying moisturizer has been beneficial and most people get completely cured and positive patience is the most needed thing during this process. Painkillers like Diclofenac can be taken for pain. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.
