Medical Conditions - Pontine Hemorrhage

Pontine hemorrhage or pontine stroke occurs when a blood vessel within the pons ruptures and bleeds into the surrounding brain tissue. This leads to symptoms like paralysis, difficulty speaking and swallowing, loss of consciousness, and coma. People with high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, or smoking habit are at risk of developing pontine hemorrhage. Treatment may include medications to control blood pressure and swelling, surgery to remove the blood clot or relieve pressure on the brain, and rehabilitation to help the patient recover function and mobility.
