What is the treatment for heavy bleeding & fibroids?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 36-year-old female experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding for seven to eight days with large blood clots. My hemoglobin level has been low for several years due to this condition. I also suffer from lower back pain if I stand for more than 30 minutes, which affects my daily activities. My ultrasound scan shows a uterus measuring 4.8 inches × 4.8 inches × 3.4 inches with multiple intramural fibroids, including a 1.8 inches anterior fibroid, a 2 inches fundal fibroid, and a 1.9 inches posterior fibroid. The endometrial thickness is 17 millimeters. My left ovary has a 22-millimeter dominant follicle.

I am unable to lead a normal life or plan for a child. Please advise on treatment options.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I appreciate that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. Please do not worry, as I am here to assist you. Regarding your symptoms, I believe you have developed a uterine fibroid measuring four by six centimeters. I advise you to undergo a myomectomy, which is the surgical removal of fibroids, as medication will likely be ineffective for a mass of this size. In the meantime, to help control the bleeding, please take one tablet of Danazol 200 milligrams by mouth twice daily for two weeks.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
