Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

When I was a kid, I used to masturbate, sometimes alone and sometimes with my cousins or friends when we used to do sexual activities. I started this at around 13 years of age. I knew it was terrible; I just never knew how bad. I always kept it from my parents. I am now getting bad thoughts about it, like what if I can get infertility and I cannot have a baby, or I could get a sexually transmitted disease? Me and my cousin used to have sex when we were around five years of age. Will this childhood memory affect me in the future?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I completely understand that you feel concerned if the fear related to your past experiences persists in future life.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

The Probable causes

Early sexual exposure to a child generally leads to such concerns and fears. Moreover, when this child gets information from surroundings such as people and media portray of negative consequences of sexual exposure, then the beliefs and fears of the growing child become stronger.

Probable diagnosis

Insufficient information to diagnose.

Treatment plan

Your question about childhood memories affecting the future is quite valid. Memories related to early childhood experiences persist in the future until and unless they are resolved from the unconscious mind with the help of a trained professional. This is a negative cycle that creates negative consequences or problems in life. If we alter this to a positive cycle, the life consequences will be changed.

Preventive measures

I appreciate that you consulted about the issue at a very young age. The more time a person gives to these fears and beliefs, the stronger they become, and, with time, it becomes harder to modify these beliefs. Research has shown that there are more chances of improvement if the treatment is started at the initial stage when symptoms develop.

Regarding follow up

Do take follow-up if you feel the need.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
