Lidocaine is an amide group anesthetic that provides local or regional anesthesia by infiltration, central and peripheral nerve block techniques. It starts acting within a few minutes by hindering nerve impulses' induction and conduction, and the effect stays for about three to four hours. In addition, it is used medically in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia, epilepsy. Furthermore, inhaled form is used to relieve cough, infusions are given to subside chronic pain, and lidocaine formulation reduces gastritis pain.
