Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I cannot run, squat, or put pressure on my left leg as whenever I try to do any of it, I feel a sharp pain in my left knee, just behind the patella. Also, I can feel a tingling sensation on the top of my thigh and the left side of my back; I think it is sciatica. I want to begin running again.

Please help me with this issue.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your concern.

In my opinion, you might have some patellofemoral issue that is the pain caused due to rubbing of patella bone against the underlying femur bone. It can be caused due to tight hip musculature, back issues, or ITB (iliotibial band) tightness.

I would suggest you to,

1) Ice the front thigh muscles and outer thigh area frequently.

2) Try to stretch hip flexor, quadriceps, gluteus, and calf muscles.

3) Do not run now as running increases pain and discomfort.

You can meet with your general practitioner to get medications to reduce inflammation and relax muscles. Once the pain subsides, you can start with rehabilitation and then gradually begin running.

I hope this is helpful for you. Kindly revert if you have any queries in this regard.

Thank you.
